If you are undecided between Chase Freedom Unlimited Vs Citi Double Cash , Chase offers unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase – it’s automatic. No minimum to redeem for cash back. Citi Double Cash offers 1% unlimited cash back on your purchases and an additional 1% as you pay for those purchases.
Both are great credit cards, the cashback you get depends on what other cards you have with Chase. Lets see how, if you have Chase Sapphire Reserve along with your Freedom Unlimited, it makes your cashback on travel to 1.5 X 1.5, which is 2.25% cashback while redeeming for travel through. If you have sapphire preferred, it will turn your cashback on travel to 1.5 X 1.2, which is 1.8%. Certainly Chase Freedom unlimited makes it great when clubbed with Reserve. Not all of them have Reserve which has higher annual fee and great benefits.
With that said, Citi Double Cash is not straight 2% as well. You get the second 1% when you pay off the balance.
If you are not a travel person, Citi Double cash card is a better option, otherwise if you have Chase Reserve and travel atleast once a year, Chase Freedom Unlimited is a good option. Chase also offers $150 bonus as promotional offer and additional $25 when you add an authorized user. Citi is not offering any promotional offer currently.
